Parts and what they mean
- Protonated ethanol (प्रोटॉनित एथेनॉल) — Its CH₂ carbon is now electrophilic and –OH₂⁺ can leave as water.
- Second ethanol molecule as nucleophile (दूसरा एथेनॉल अणु नाभिकस्नेही के रूप में) — The lone pair on its O attacks the CH₂ carbon of the protonated alcohol.
- SN2 curved arrows (SN2 वक्र तीर) — New C–O bond forms as the old C–O bond breaks and water leaves — one step, bimolecular.
- Ethoxyethane (diethyl ether) (एथॉक्सीएथेन (डाइएथिल ईथर)) — At 413 K ethoxyethane is the main product; at 443 K ethanol gives ethene.
- Limits of this method (इस विधि की सीमाएँ) — Suitable for symmetrical ethers from primary alcohols; ethyl methyl ether cannot be made this way (CH₃OCH₃, C₂H₅OCH₃ and C₂H₅OC₂H₅ would all form).
