Parts and what they mean
- With a carboxylic acid (conc. H₂SO₄ catalyst) (कार्बोक्सिलिक अम्ल के साथ (सांद्र H₂SO₄ उत्प्रेरक)) — The reaction is reversible, so water is removed as soon as it is formed.
- With an acid anhydride (small amount of conc. H₂SO₄) (अम्ल ऐनहाइड्राइड के साथ (थोड़ा सांद्र H₂SO₄)) — Gives the ester and a carboxylic acid.
- With an acid chloride in pyridine (पिरिडीन में अम्ल क्लोराइड के साथ) — Pyridine (a base) neutralises the HCl formed and shifts the equilibrium to the right.
- Salicylic acid (2-hydroxybenzoic acid) (सैलिसिलिक अम्ल (2-हाइड्रॉक्सीबेन्ज़ोइक अम्ल)) — Its phenolic –OH gets acetylated.
- Acetic anhydride, acid catalyst (ऐसीटिक ऐनहाइड्राइड, अम्ल उत्प्रेरक) — Acetylation = introduction of an acetyl (CH₃CO) group.
- Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) (ऐस्पिरिन (ऐसीटिलसैलिसिलिक अम्ल)) — Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic.
