Parts and what they mean
- Propane, 231 K (प्रोपेन, 231 K) — Only weak van der Waals forces between molecules.
- Methoxymethane, 248 K (मेथॉक्सीमेथेन, 248 K) — Polar C–O bonds (dipole–dipole forces) but no O–H, so no hydrogen bonding between molecules: intermediate b.p.
- Ethanol, 351 K (एथेनॉल, 351 K) — Intermolecular hydrogen bonding: far higher b.p. than propane of comparable molecular mass.
- n-Pentane, 309.1 K (n-पेन्टेन, 309.1 K) — Immiscible with water.
- Ethoxyethane, 307.6 K (एथॉक्सीएथेन, 307.6 K) — Close to pentane: ethers cannot H-bond to each other. But it dissolves in water (7.5 g per 100 mL) because water H-bonds to the ether O.
- Butan-1-ol, 390 K (ब्यूटेन-1-ऑल, 390 K) — Hydrogen bonding raises the b.p.; solubility 9 g per 100 mL water.
- Colour key (रंग संकेत) — Values from NCERT Sections 7.4.3 and 7.6.2.
