Parts and what they mean
- 3d series (3d श्रेणी) — Radius falls slowly across the series (NCERT Table 4.2): Sc 164 → Ni 125 pm.
- 4d series (4d श्रेणी) — Larger than 3d, as expected for one more shell.
- 5d series (5d श्रेणी) — Almost the same as 4d — the 4f filling before 5d (lanthanoid contraction) cancels the expected increase.
- Zr 160 pm ≈ Hf 159 pm (Zr 160 pm ≈ Hf 159 pm) — The textbook example of the lanthanoid contraction: so similar they occur together and are hard to separate.
- 3d smallest (3d सबसे छोटी) — New electrons enter the inner d shell, which shields poorly, so effective nuclear charge rises and size falls slowly.
- Axes (अक्ष) — x: group 3–11; y: metallic radius in pm. 3d values: NCERT Table 4.2; 4d/5d: standard data.
