Parts and their functions
- Testis (opened) (वृषण (खुला हुआ)) — Primary male sex organ, 4–5 cm long, in the scrotum. About 250 testicular lobules, each with 1–3 coiled seminiferous tubules that make sperms.
- Testis (वृषण) — Pair of testes in the scrotum. Seminiferous tubules make sperms; Leydig (interstitial) cells make androgens (testosterone).
- Testicular lobules (वृषण पालिकाएँ) — ~250 compartments of the testis; each has 1–3 highly coiled seminiferous tubules (orange zig-zags).
- Rete testis (वृषण जालिका) — Network of tubules into which the seminiferous tubules open; the first part of the male duct system.
- Vasa efferentia (शुक्रवाहिकाएँ) — Small ducts that carry sperms from the rete testis to the epididymis.
- Epididymis (अधिवृषण) — Coiled tube along the side (back) of each testis; sperms are stored here. Leads to the vas deferens.
- Vas deferens (शुक्रवाहक) — Ascends to the abdomen, loops over the urinary bladder, receives the duct of the seminal vesicle and opens into the urethra as the ejaculatory duct.
- Vas deferens (शुक्रवाहक) — Carries sperms from the epididymis; joins the seminal vesicle duct to form the ejaculatory duct.
- Scrotum (वृषणकोष) — Pouch outside the abdomen that holds the testes; keeps them 2–2.5 °C below body temperature — needed for spermatogenesis.
- Ureter (मूत्रवाहिनी) — Carries urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder (shown for position).
- Urinary bladder (मूत्राशय) — Stores urine. The vas deferens loops over it; the seminal vesicles lie behind it.
- Seminal vesicle (शुक्राशय) — Paired accessory gland. Its secretion is part of the seminal plasma (rich in fructose, calcium and certain enzymes).
- Ejaculatory duct (स्खलन वाहिनी) — Formed by the vas deferens + duct of the seminal vesicle; opens into the urethra.
- Prostate (प्रोस्टेट ग्रंथि) — Single accessory gland around the urethra below the bladder; adds to the seminal plasma.
- Bulbourethral gland (बल्बोयूरेथ्रल ग्रंथि) — Paired gland; its secretion also helps in lubrication of the penis.
- Urethra (मूत्रमार्ग) — Starts from the urinary bladder, runs through the penis and opens outside at the urethral meatus; carries urine and semen.
- Penis (शिश्न) — Male external genitalia made of special erectile tissue that helps in erection for insemination.
- Glans penis (शिश्नमुंड) — Enlarged end of the penis, covered by a loose fold of skin (foreskin).
- Foreskin (शिश्नाग्रच्छद (अग्रचर्म)) — Loose fold of skin covering the glans penis.
