Parts and their functions
- Red parent (RR) (लाल पैतृक (RR)) — True-breeding red-flowered plant; makes only R gametes.
- White parent (rr) (सफ़ेद पैतृक (rr)) — True-breeding white-flowered plant; makes only r gametes.
- Gametes (युग्मक) — Each gamete carries one allele: R from the red parent, r from the white parent.
- F1: Rr pink (F1: Rr गुलाबी) — F1 is pink — in between the two parents. R is not completely dominant over r.
- F2 Punnett square (F2 पनेट वर्ग) — F1 selfed: RR, Rr, Rr, rr — genotype ratio 1 : 2 : 1, exactly as in any Mendelian monohybrid cross.
- F2 phenotype ratio 1 : 2 : 1 (F2 फीनोटाइप अनुपात 1 : 2 : 1) — 1 red : 2 pink : 1 white. Here the phenotype ratio equals the genotype ratio (not 3 : 1).
