Parts and their functions
- Stomatal pore (रंध्र छिद्र) — Tiny pore in the leaf surface; exchange of gases (O₂, CO₂) for photosynthesis and respiration; water vapour is also lost here.
- Guard cells (द्वार कोशिकाएँ) — Open and close the pore: water flows in → they swell → pore opens; water flows out → they shrink → pore closes.
- Chloroplasts (हरितलवक) — Guard cells contain chloroplasts (green). Chlorophyll inside chloroplasts absorbs light for photosynthesis.
- Nucleus (केंद्रक) — Each guard cell has its own nucleus.
- Epidermal cells (बाह्यत्वचा कोशिकाएँ) — Surface cells of the leaf around the stomata.
