Parts and their functions
- Test tube A — air + water (परखनली A — वायु + जल) — The nail is exposed to both air and water → it rusts.
- Test tube B — boiled distilled water, no air (परखनली B — उबला आसुत जल, वायु नहीं) — Boiling removes dissolved air; the oil layer stops air from dissolving again → no rust.
- Layer of oil (तेल की परत) — Floats on water and keeps air out.
- Test tube C — dry air only (परखनली C — केवल शुष्क वायु) — No moisture → no rust.
- Anhydrous calcium chloride (निर्जल कैल्सियम क्लोराइड) — Absorbs moisture from the air in the tube, keeping it dry.
- Rust (जंग) — A brown flaky substance formed on iron exposed to moist air. Rusting needs BOTH air (oxygen) and water.
