Parts and their functions
- Bowman's capsule (बोमन संपुट) — Cup-shaped top of the nephron. Collects the filtrate from the glomerulus.
- Glomerulus (केशिका गुच्छ (ग्लोमेरुलस)) — Cluster of very thin-walled blood capillaries. Blood is filtered here.
- Tubule (नलिका) — As filtrate flows along, useful substances (glucose, amino acids, salts, much water) are selectively reabsorbed.
- Capillaries around the tubule (नलिका के चारों ओर केशिकाएँ) — Take the reabsorbed substances back into the blood.
- Branch of renal artery (वृक्क धमनी की शाखा) — Brings blood with nitrogenous wastes (urea, uric acid) into the glomerulus.
- Branch of renal vein (वृक्क शिरा की शाखा) — Carries filtered (cleaned) blood away from the kidney.
- Collecting duct (संग्राहक वाहिनी) — Urine from many nephrons collects here and goes to the ureter.
