Parts and their functions
- Carbon atom — tetravalent (कार्बन परमाणु — चतुःसंयोजी) — Atomic number 6 (2, 4): four valence electrons. It cannot easily gain or lose four, so it shares them.
- Hydrogen atoms (valency 1) (हाइड्रोजन परमाणु (संयोजकता 1)) — Each H shares one electron with carbon and gets 2 electrons (like helium).
- Shared electron pair = one covalent bond (साझा इलेक्ट्रॉन युग्म = एक सहसंयोजक आबंध) — Four shared pairs → carbon gets an octet (8), each H gets 2.
- Structural formula of methane (मेथेन का संरचना सूत्र) — Each line is one single covalent bond. Methane is a fuel — major part of biogas and CNG.
