Parts and their functions
- Sodium carbonate + dilute HCl (सोडियम कार्बोनेट + तनु HCl) — Metal carbonate + acid → salt + carbon dioxide + water. NaHCO₃ gives the same gas.
- Carbon dioxide gas (brisk effervescence) (कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड गैस (तेज़ बुदबुदाहट)) — The fizzing is CO₂ escaping.
- Delivery tube (निकास नली) — Leads the gas into lime water.
- Lime water — calcium hydroxide solution (चूने का पानी — कैल्सियम हाइड्रॉक्साइड विलयन) — The standard test for CO₂.
- Milky — white precipitate of CaCO₃ (दूधिया — CaCO₃ का सफ़ेद अवक्षेप) — Ca(OH)₂ + CO₂ → CaCO₃ + H₂O. With excess CO₂ it clears again: CaCO₃ + H₂O + CO₂ → Ca(HCO₃)₂ (soluble).
