Parts and their functions
- Glucose (6-carbon molecule) (ग्लूकोज़ (6-कार्बन अणु)) — The fuel. First step happens in the cytoplasm.
- Pyruvate (3-carbon molecule) (पाइरूवेट (3-कार्बन अणु)) — Glucose → pyruvate in the cytoplasm, with a little energy. What happens next depends on oxygen.
- Ethanol + CO₂ (in yeast) (इथेनॉल + CO₂ (यीस्ट में)) — Without oxygen (fermentation). Anaerobic respiration.
- Lactic acid (in muscle cells) (लैक्टिक अम्ल (पेशी कोशिकाओं में)) — When oxygen falls short during heavy exercise. Lactic acid build-up causes cramps.
- CO₂ + H₂O (in mitochondria) (CO₂ + H₂O (माइटोकॉन्ड्रिया में)) — With oxygen: aerobic respiration. Releases much more energy than anaerobic.
