Parts and their functions

• Sun (सूर्य) — The source of energy; producers capture about 1% of the sunlight falling on leaves.
• Producers (उत्पादक) — Convert light energy into chemical energy (food).
• Herbivores (शाकाहारी) — Get about 10% of the energy of producers.
• Carnivores (मांसाहारी) — Get about 10% of the herbivores' energy.
• Heat loss (ऊष्मा हानि) — A great deal of energy is lost as heat at every level and cannot be used again.
• Decomposers (अपमार्जक) — Receive dead remains and wastes from all levels.
• Unidirectional flow (एकदिशिक प्रवाह) — Energy never returns to the previous level or the Sun, and it diminishes at each level.
