Parts and their functions
- Genetic diversity (आनुवंशिक विविधता) — Diversity within one species across its range — e.g. Rauwolfia vomitoria in different Himalayan ranges differs in potency and concentration of reserpine; India has >50,000 rice strains and 1,000 mango varieties.
- Species diversity (जातीय विविधता) — Diversity at the species level — e.g. the Western Ghats have greater amphibian species diversity than the Eastern Ghats.
- Ecological diversity (पारिस्थितिक विविधता) — Diversity at the ecosystem level — India, with deserts, rain forests, mangroves, coral reefs, wetlands, estuaries and alpine meadows, has more than Norway.
