Testing electrical conductivity of a solutionविलयन की विद्युत चालकता का परीक्षण
NCERT Fig 9.15 · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- 9 V battery (9 V बैटरी) — Low voltage is safe. Do not touch the electrodes when connected.
- Bulb (बल्ब) — Glows only if the liquid conducts — i.e. it has free ions.
- Carbon or metal electrodes (कार्बन या धातु के इलेक्ट्रोड) — They dip into the sample to complete the circuit.
- Cardboard holder (गत्ते का होल्डर) — Keeps the two electrodes apart.
- Sample solution (नमूने का विलयन) — NaCl or CuSO₄ in water: ions move → bulb glows. Sugar solution: no ions → no glow. Solid NaCl: ions fixed → no glow.
- Beaker (बीकर) — Test each sample one at a time.
