Parts and their functions
- Conical flask (closed system) (शंक्वाकार फ्लास्क (बंद तंत्र)) — With the balloon tied on, nothing can enter or escape.
- Vinegar (or lemon juice) (सिरका (या नींबू का रस)) — About 20 mL of acid in the flask.
- Balloon tied to the mouth (मुँह पर बँधा गुब्बारा) — It inflates with carbon dioxide during the reaction but keeps the gas inside.
- Baking soda (sodium hydrogencarbonate) (खाने का सोडा (सोडियम हाइड्रोजनकार्बोनेट)) — About 2 g, tipped into the vinegar by lifting the balloon → brisk effervescence.
- Carbon dioxide gas (कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड गैस) — In an open flask this gas escapes and the reading drops (set-up 1). Here it is trapped.
- Digital weighing balance (डिजिटल तुला) — Reading before = reading after → mass is neither created nor destroyed (Lavoisier, 1789).
