Parts and their functions
- Nucleus (नाभिक) — Protons and neutrons; the electrons revolve around it in fixed shells.
- K-shell (n = 1) (K-कोश (n = 1)) — Closest to the nucleus, lowest energy. Holds at most 2 × 1² = 2 electrons.
- L-shell (n = 2) (L-कोश (n = 2)) — Holds at most 2 × 2² = 8 electrons. Filled only after K is full.
- M-shell (n = 3) (M-कोश (n = 3)) — Can hold 2 × 3² = 18, but as the outermost shell it holds at most 8.
- N-shell (n = 4) (N-कोश (n = 4)) — Farther from the nucleus → higher energy. An electron jumps between shells only by absorbing or releasing the exact energy difference.
