Parts and their functions

• Separating funnel (पृथक्कारी कीप) — Let the mixture stand undisturbed until two clear layers form.
• Oil — upper layer (तेल — ऊपरी परत) — Less dense than water, so it floats on top. It is poured out from the top or collected last.
• Water — lower layer (जल — निचली परत) — Denser liquid settles at the bottom and is drained first.
• Stopcock (स्टॉपकॉक) — Opened carefully to drain the lower layer; closed as soon as the boundary reaches it. The small middle portion (both liquids) is collected separately.
• Laboratory stand with ring (रिंग वाला प्रयोगशाला स्टैंड) — Holds the funnel upright and steady.
