Parts and their functions
- Distillation flask (आसवन फ्लास्क) — Holds the mixture. Acetone (b.p. ≈56 °C) boils off first; water (100 °C) stays behind.
- Thermometer (तापमापी) — Its bulb sits at the side-arm and shows the boiling point of the vapour that is distilling.
- Water condenser (जल संघनित्र) — Cold water enters at the lower end and leaves at the upper end; it cools the vapour back into liquid.
- Burner, tripod and wire gauze (बर्नर, तिपाई और तार जाली) — Provide gentle, even heating.
- Conical flask (receiver) (शंक्वाकार फ्लास्क (ग्राही)) — Collects the pure liquid — the distillate (here acetone).
