Parts and their functions
- Plasma (प्लाज़्मा) — Fluid matrix of blood (~55% of volume) carrying nutrients, hormones and wastes.
- Formed elements (रक्त कणिकाएँ) — ~45% of blood: RBCs, WBCs and platelets.
- Blood is a connective tissue (रक्त एक संयोजी ऊतक) — Fluid matrix; connects body parts by transporting gases, nutrients and hormones.
- Red blood cells (लाल रक्त कोशिकाएँ) — Contain iron-rich haemoglobin (red colour), carry oxygen; live about 4 months.
- White blood cells (श्वेत रक्त कोशिकाएँ) — Fight infection — collect at infected areas causing redness, swelling, pus.
- Platelets (बिंबाणु (प्लेटलेट्स)) — Help blood clot at the site of injury.
- Bone (अस्थि) — Hard, rigid matrix with calcium and phosphorus compounds — strength, support, protection.
- Cartilage (उपास्थि) — Soft, flexible, jelly-like matrix; cushions bone ends (shock absorber); also in ear and nose.
- Ligament (स्नायु (लिगामेंट)) — Connects bone to bone; gives stability, limits movement, prevents dislocation.
- Muscle (पेशी) — Contracts and pulls on the bone via the tendon.
- Tendon (कंडरा) — Tough connective tissue connecting muscle to bone; transmits the pull of the muscle.
- Kneecap (घुटने की टोपी (पटेला)) — Small bone protecting the knee (hinge) joint.
