Parts and their functions
- Isotonic solution (समपरासारी विलयन) — Solute concentration outside = inside. Water moves in and out equally — the cell stays the same.
- Hypotonic solution (अल्पपरासारी विलयन) — Outside is more dilute (e.g. plain water). Water enters by osmosis — the cell swells (potato in Beaker A).
- Hypertonic solution (अतिपरासारी विलयन) — Outside is more concentrated (e.g. 20% salt). Water leaves — the cell shrinks (potato in Beaker B).
- Osmosis (परासरण) — Movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane from a dilute to a concentrated solution. Salt/sugar cannot pass.
