Parts and their functions
- Eyepiece (नेत्रिका) — The lens you look through (e.g. 10X). Total magnification = eyepiece × objective (10X × 10X = 100X).
- Body tube (देह नलिका) — Holds the eyepiece at the top and the objective lenses at the bottom.
- Objective lens (अभिदृश्यक लेंस) — Lens close to the slide; school microscopes have 10X and 40X objectives for more magnification and resolution.
- Stage (मंच (स्टेज)) — Flat platform on which the slide is placed, over a hole that lets light through.
- Mirror (दर्पण) — Reflects light up through the slide so the specimen is lit.
- Base (आधार) — Heavy bottom that keeps the microscope steady.
- Handle (arm) (हत्था (भुजा)) — Hold the microscope here while carrying it, with the other hand under the base.
- Coarse adjustment knob (स्थूल समायोजन घुंडी) — Moves the tube a lot — use it first to bring the slide roughly into focus.
- Fine adjustment knob (सूक्ष्म समायोजन घुंडी) — Moves the tube a little — sharpens the image.
