Parts and their functions
- Outer membrane (बाहरी झिल्ली) — Chloroplasts are double-membrane-bound, like mitochondria.
- Inner membrane (भीतरी झिल्ली) — Second membrane enclosing the stroma.
- Disc-shaped membranes (चक्रिकाकार झिल्लियाँ) — Contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis.
- Stroma (पीठिका (स्ट्रोमा)) — Semi-fluid substance inside the chloroplast; sugars made in photosynthesis are stored here with starch granules.
- Own DNA and ribosomes (अपना DNA व राइबोसोम) — Like mitochondria, plastids carry their own DNA and ribosomes.
- Starch granule (स्टार्च कण) — Stored food made by photosynthesis.
