Parts and their functions
- Cell wall (कोशिका भित्ति) — Bacteria have a cell wall outside the membrane for protection and support.
- Cell membrane (कोशिका झिल्ली) — Selectively permeable boundary, as in all cells.
- Nucleoid (केंद्रकाभ (न्यूक्लिऑइड)) — Region with a single circular DNA molecule and proteins — no nuclear membrane, so the cell is prokaryotic.
- Ribosomes (राइबोसोम) — Present even in prokaryotes; make proteins. No membrane-bound organelles (no mitochondria, ER, Golgi).
- Cytoplasm (कोशिकाद्रव्य) — Most activities of a prokaryotic cell happen directly in the cytoplasm.
- Appendage for locomotion (चलन हेतु उपांग) — A tail-like structure that helps the bacterium move.
