Parts and their functions
- Snow (albedo 0.80–0.90) (हिम (ऐल्बिडो 0.80–0.90)) — Reflects 80–90% of sunlight, so snowy and polar regions stay very cold.
- Crushed rock (0.25–0.30) (कुचली चट्टान (0.25–0.30)) — Reflects about a quarter; absorbs the rest. Ice is 0.50–0.70.
- Ocean water (low albedo) (समुद्री जल (कम ऐल्बिडो)) — Reflects only a few percent (higher when the Sun is low); black soil is also low — both absorb most sunlight and warm up.
- Absorbed energy (अवशोषित ऊर्जा) — What is not reflected is absorbed and warms the surface, which later re-radiates it as infrared.
