Parts and their functions
- Reference circle (radius A) (संदर्भ वृत्त (त्रिज्या A)) — P goes round it with constant angular speed ω.
- Particle P (कण P) — Its velocity ωA is along the tangent; its acceleration ω²A points to the centre.
- Phase angle ωt + φ (कला कोण ωt + φ) — Angle of OP with the x axis at time t; φ is the initial phase (at t = 0).
- Projection P′ (प्रक्षेप P′) — x = A cos(ωt + φ): the foot of the perpendicular oscillates between −A and +A — SHM.
- Amplitude A (आयाम A) — Maximum displacement from the mean position = radius of the circle.
- x(t) = A cos(ωt + φ) (x(t) = A cos(ωt + φ)) — v = −ωA sin(ωt + φ), a = −ω²x; period T = 2π/ω.
