Parts and their functions

• Rigid support (दृढ़ आधार) — Point of suspension.
• Inextensible string, angle θ (अवितान्य डोरी, कोण θ) — Massless string of length L; θ measured from the vertical.
• Bob (mass m) (गोलक (द्रव्यमान m)) — Treated as a point mass.
• Weight mg (भार mg) — Splits into mg cos θ along the string and mg sin θ along the arc.
• Tension T (तनाव T) — Acts along the string; balances mg cos θ (plus the centripetal need).
• Restoring force mg sin θ (प्रत्यानयन बल mg sin θ) — Torque −mgL sin θ ≈ −mgLθ for small θ ⇒ angular SHM.
• Length L (लंबाई L) — From the support to the centre of the bob.
• T = 2π√(L/g) (T = 2π√(L/g)) — For small angles; independent of the mass of the bob and the amplitude. Seconds pendulum (T = 2 s): L ≈ 1 m.
