Parts and their functions

• Light, inextensible string (हल्की, अवितान्य डोरी) — Its length l (from support to the centre of the bob) is the effective length.
• Bob of mass m (द्रव्यमान m का गोलक) — Dimensional analysis gives z = 0: the time period does not depend on the mass.
• Length l (लंबाई l) — T ∝ √l — four times the length doubles the time period.
• Acceleration due to gravity g (गुरुत्वीय त्वरण g) — T ∝ 1/√g — on the Moon (smaller g) the pendulum swings slower.
• Time period T (आवर्तकाल T) — Time for one complete oscillation. Dimensions give T = k√(l/g); experiment gives k = 2π.
• Rigid support (दृढ़ आधार) — Fixed point of suspension.
