Parts and what they mean

• a² (blue square) (a² (नीला वर्ग)) — Side a × side a.
• 2ab (two green rectangles) (2ab (दो हरे आयत)) — Two rectangles a × b — this is why the middle coefficient is ²C₁ = 2.
• b² (orange square) (b² (नारंगी वर्ग)) — Side b × side b.
• Total area (कुल क्षेत्रफल) — Whole square (a + b) × (a + b) = a² + 2ab + b² — the n = 2 row 1, 2, 1 of Pascal’s triangle.
