Parts and what they mean
- Parabola (परवलय) — Points equidistant from a fixed point (focus) and a fixed line (directrix).
- Focus F(a, 0) (नाभि F(a, 0)) — For y² = 4ax the focus is (a, 0); here a = 1.5.
- Vertex (शीर्ष) — Point where the parabola meets its axis — the origin here. Axis: the x-axis.
- Directrix x = −a (नियता x = −a) — The fixed line, on the opposite side of the vertex from the focus.
- Latus rectum (नाभिलंब) — Chord through the focus perpendicular to the axis; length 4a. Ends (a, ±2a).
- Point P on the parabola (परवलय पर बिंदु P) — Distance to focus PF = distance to directrix PM.
- Four standard forms (चार मानक रूप) — y² = 4ax (right), y² = −4ax (left), x² = 4ay (up), x² = −4ay (down).
