Parts and their functions
- Diploid parent cell (द्विगुणित जनक कोशिका) — 2n cell (e.g. in gonads) after S phase — each chromosome has 2 chromatids.
- Meiosis I (अर्धसूत्री I) — Reductional division — homologous chromosomes separate.
- Homologues separated (समजात अलग) — Dyad of cells: each has n chromosomes, still with 2 chromatids each.
- Meiosis II (अर्धसूत्री II) — Equational, like mitosis — centromeres split.
- Chromatids separated (अर्धगुणसूत्र अलग) — Four haploid daughter cells, genetically different because of crossing over.
