Parts and their functions

• Renal capsule (वृक्क संपुट) — Tough outer covering of the kidney.
• Cortex (वल्कुट) — Outer zone; has the Malpighian bodies, PCT and DCT.
• Medullary pyramid (मध्यांश पिरामिड) — Conical parts of the medulla; carry Henle’s loops and collecting ducts.
• Column of Bertini (बर्तीनी स्तंभ) — Cortex extending between the medullary pyramids (renal columns).
• Calyx (कैलिक्स) — Cup-like projection of the pelvis receiving urine from a pyramid.
• Renal pelvis (वृक्क श्रोणि) — Broad funnel-shaped space inner to the hilum.
• Ureter (मूत्रवाहिनी) — Leaves the kidney at the hilum; carries urine to the bladder.
