Parts and their functions
- α-carbon (α-कार्बन) — Central carbon holding all four groups.
- Amino group (अमीनो समूह) — –NH₂; basic; becomes –NH₃⁺ in solution.
- Carboxyl group (कार्बोक्सिल समूह) — –COOH; acidic; becomes –COO⁻ in solution (zwitterion).
- R group = CH₃ (R समूह = CH₃) — The variable group; methyl in alanine — decides the amino acid.
- Hydrogen (हाइड्रोजन) — Fourth substituent on the α-carbon.
