Parts and what they mean
- Principal axis (मुख्य अक्ष) —
- Objective (small focal length fo) (अभिदृश्यक (कम फोकस दूरी fo)) — Lens nearest the object. Forms a real, inverted, magnified image h′; mo = h′/h = L/fo.
- Eyepiece (focal length fe) (नेत्रिका (फोकस दूरी fe)) — Works like a simple microscope on h′: me = D/fe (image at ∞) or 1 + D/fe (image at D).
- Object h (वस्तु h) — Placed just beyond the focus Fo of the objective.
- First image h′ (पहला प्रतिबिंब h′) — Real and inverted; formed at or just inside the focus Fe of the eyepiece.
- Final image (अंतिम प्रतिबिंब) — Virtual, enlarged and inverted with respect to the object.
- Rays through the objective (अभिदृश्यक से किरणें) — Parallel ray (through F′o) and the ray through the centre meet at h′.
- Rays through the eyepiece (नेत्रिका से किरणें) — They diverge; traced back (dashed) they meet at the final virtual image.
- Eye (आँख) —
- Focus of objective Fo (अभिदृश्यक का फोकस Fo) —
- Second focus of objective F′o (अभिदृश्यक का द्वितीय फोकस F′o) — Tube length is measured from here.
- First focus of eyepiece Fe (नेत्रिका का प्रथम फोकस Fe) —
- Tube length L (नली की लंबाई L) — Distance between the second focal point of the objective and the first focal point of the eyepiece.
