Parts and what they mean
- Metal (copper) (धातु (ताँबा)) — Hotter → ions vibrate more → more collisions, smaller τ → ρ increases. Roughly linear: α is positive.
- Alloy (nichrome) (मिश्रधातु (नाइक्रोम)) — High resistivity that hardly changes with temperature — ideal for heaters and standard resistors (manganin, constantan are similar).
- Semiconductor (अर्धचालक) — Heating frees more charge carriers (n increases), so ρ decreases: α is negative.
