Parts and their functions
- Glass prism (angle of prism A) (काँच का प्रिज़्म (प्रिज़्म कोण A)) — Two triangular bases and three rectangular faces. The angle between the two refracting faces is the angle of the prism.
- Incident ray PE (आपतित किरण PE) — Air → glass at face AB: bends towards the normal. Angle of incidence ∠i.
- Refracted ray EF (अपवर्तित किरण EF) — Inside the glass. Angle of refraction ∠r at face AB.
- Emergent ray FS (निर्गत किरण FS) — Glass → air at face AC: bends away from the normal. Angle of emergence ∠e.
- Normals at E and F (E और F पर अभिलंब) — Angles i, r and e are measured from these normals.
- Angle of deviation ∠D (विचलन कोण ∠D) — Angle between the incident ray (extended) and the emergent ray. The prism bends light towards its base.
