NCERT Fig 7.8 · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Pollen grain (परागकण) — Lands on the stigma after pollination and grows a tube.
- Stigma (वर्तिकाग्र) — Sticky surface that receives pollen.
- Pollen tube (परागनलिका) — Grows from the pollen grain through the style to the ovule, carrying the male germ-cell.
- Style (वर्तिका) — The pollen tube passes through it.
- Male germ-cell (नर जनन कोशिका) — Produced by the pollen grain; fuses with the egg.
- Ovule (बीजांड) — Contains the female gamete. Becomes the seed after fertilisation.
- Female germ-cell (egg) (मादा जनन कोशिका (अंड)) — Fuses with the male germ-cell → zygote (fertilisation).
- Ovary (अंडाशय) — Holds the ovules; ripens into the fruit.
