Parts and their functions
- White light (sunlight) (श्वेत प्रकाश (सूर्य का प्रकाश)) — A mixture of seven colours.
- Glass prism (काँच का प्रिज़्म) — Each colour bends through a different angle, so the colours separate.
- Red — least deviated (लाल — सबसे कम विचलन) — Red light bends the least, so it is at the top of the spectrum.
- Violet — most deviated (बैंगनी — सबसे अधिक विचलन) — Violet light bends the most, so it is at the bottom.
- Spectrum (VIBGYOR) (स्पेक्ट्रम (VIBGYOR / बैं-जा-नी-ह-पी-ना-ला)) — The band of coloured components: Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red.
- Screen (परदा) — The separated colours fall on it as a spectrum.
