Parts and their functions
- Prongs (tines) (भुजाएँ) — The two arms of the U. Struck gently on a rubber pad, they vibrate and produce a nearly single-frequency sound.
- Stem (हत्था (स्टेम)) — Hold the fork by the stem so your hand does not stop the vibration.
- Vibration (कंपन) — Periodic to-and-fro motion. Sound is produced only while the prongs vibrate.
- Rubber pad (रबड़ का पैड) — Never strike the fork on a hard surface — it can damage it.
- Ripples in water (जल में तरंगें) — Touching water with a vibrating prong makes ripples — proof that the prongs vibrate.
