Parts and what they mean
- Union A ∪ B (shaded) (सम्मिलन A ∪ B (छायांकित)) — Everything that is in A, or in B, or in both. Common elements are written only once.
- Intersection A ∩ B (shaded) (सर्वनिष्ठ A ∩ B (छायांकित)) — Only the common part — elements that are in A and also in B. If A ∩ B = φ, A and B are disjoint.
- Difference A − B (shaded) (अंतर A − B (छायांकित)) — Elements of A that are NOT in B. Note: A − B and B − A are different sets.
- Complement A′ (shaded) (पूरक A′ (छायांकित)) — Everything in the universal set U that is not in A: A′ = U − A.
