Parts and their functions
- Brönsted base (ब्रॉन्स्टेड क्षार) — NH₃ accepts a proton (H⁺) from water.
- Brönsted acid (ब्रॉन्स्टेड अम्ल) — H₂O donates a proton here. Water is amphoteric — it is a base towards HCl.
- Conjugate acid (संयुग्मी अम्ल) — NH₄⁺ is what the base becomes after gaining H⁺.
- Conjugate base (संयुग्मी क्षार) — OH⁻ is what the acid becomes after losing H⁺.
- Pair 1 (युग्म 1) — NH₃/NH₄⁺. A strong acid has a weak conjugate base and vice versa.
- Pair 2 (युग्म 2) — H₂O/OH⁻. For any pair Ka × Kb = Kw.
