Parts and their functions
- Glycolysis (ग्लाइकोलिसिस) — Common to all three paths, in the cytoplasm.
- Pyruvic acid (पाइरुविक अम्ल) — Branch point.
- Lactic acid fermentation (लैक्टिक अम्ल किण्वन) — Pyruvate reduced to lactic acid by lactate dehydrogenase; NADH reoxidised.
- Alcoholic fermentation (ऐल्कोहॉलिक किण्वन) — Pyruvic acid decarboxylase + alcohol dehydrogenase; yeast dies at ~13% alcohol.
- Aerobic respiration (वायवीय श्वसन) — Krebs’ cycle + ETS in mitochondria; complete oxidation.
