Parts and their functions

• Cell wall (कोशिका भित्ति) — Rigid non-living layer of cellulose, hemicellulose, pectins; primary wall, middle lamella.
• Plasma membrane (प्लाज़्मा झिल्ली) — Lies just inside the wall.
• Central vacuole (केंद्रीय रिक्तिका) — Bound by tonoplast; water, sap, excretory products; up to 90% of cell volume.
• Nucleus (केंद्रक) — Pushed to the periphery by the vacuole.
• Nucleolus (केंद्रिक) — rRNA synthesis.
• Chloroplasts (हरितलवक) — Double membrane; grana and stroma; photosynthesis.
• Mitochondria (सूत्रकणिकाएँ) — Aerobic respiration.
• Golgi apparatus (गॉल्जी उपकरण) — Packaging; in plants also cell-plate/wall material.
• Endoplasmic reticulum (अंतर्द्रव्यी जालिका) — Network of tubules.
• Plasmodesmata (जीवद्रव्य तंतु) — Cytoplasmic connections through walls of neighbouring cells.
