Parts and their functions

• Capsule (संपुटिका (कैप्सूल)) — Part of the sporophyte; spores form here after meiosis; mosses have an elaborate spore-dispersal mechanism.
• Seta (सीटा) — Stalk of the sporophyte that lifts the capsule.
• Leaves (leaf-like) (पत्तियाँ (पत्ती जैसी)) — Spirally arranged on the upright axis of the leafy stage.
• Main axis (मुख्य अक्ष) — Upright slender stem-like axis of the leafy gametophyte; sex organs form at its apex.
• Rhizoids (मूलाभास) — Multicellular, branched; attach the moss to soil.
